How do the hunts work?
All hunts run for a fixed amount of time. Once a hunt starts, clues are released on the web site
at pre-determined times. Most hunts follow the same loose 'formula' as follows: First location clues are released that require you to find
and visit a location. Once there you need to collect some information. Normally, once all location clues have been released, clues giving instructions on how to use the information
previously collected are released. Solving these clues will lead you to the final treasure! When the hunt ends no more submissions are accepted
and the winner is notified by email. A solution for the hunt is provided as well.
Once I figure out a clue, what do I do?
There are several types of clues as described below:
Location clues: These clues require you to figure out a location (either a physical location or somewhere on
a website). Sometimes you need to visit the location to find a piece of information, other times the location
itself is the information you need.
Puzzle clues: These clues present you with a puzzle to solve. Solving the final puzzle will reveal where
or what the treasure is. Information collected through location clues is needed to solve the final puzzle.
Helper clues: These clues give hints for hard to solve location and puzzle clues.
Locked clues: Some hunts have clues that are locked until all previous clues have been solved.
Depending on the hunt, location clues will either ask you to remember something, or submit an answer for automatic
verification. Sometimes secret information is given to you after correctly submitting a clue answer that you will
need later to find the treasure.
What do I do if I can't figure out a clue?
Don't give up! In most hunts clues that are very challenging will have one or more 'helper' clues that will give
extra hints on how to figure out the clue.
When are clues released?
Each hunt has a different schedule for releasing clues. You can always find out when the next clue for a hunt will be
released by visiting the main page for the hunt. The date and time that the next clue will be released is listed in the
summary box.
How many clues are released a day?
Each hunt as a different schedule for releasing clues. Sometimes multiple clues are released on a day, sometimes no
clues are released.
How do I submit my answer to a hunt?
Once a hunt starts you will see a link from the main page for the hunt that will give you instructions on how to submit
your solution for the hunt. These instructions will tell you the email address to send your solution to as well as any
specific requirements for the solution such as whether a picture is required or not.
Can I join a hunt after it's started?
Yes! Most hunts can't be solved until well into the event so starting late isn't necessarily a disadvantage.
How do I get my prize?
If you are the winner of a hunt you will be notified at the end of the hunt by email.
In this email we will provide instructions on how to claim your prize. If the prize is cash you'll receive a cheque mailed to an
address you provide. Gift cards and other prizes may require you to pick them up in person from the hunt sponsor.
