What is a Mobile Treasure Hunt?

A Leisure Rules mobile treasure hunt is a fun urban adventure that requires teams to work together in order to follow clues, visit locations, find pieces of information, take creative group photos and solve puzzles. Teams interact with the treasure hunt using their web-enabled mobile phone. This includes retrieving clues, answering clue questions, unlocking subsequent clues, getting clue hints and submitting final answers. Our hunts are environmentally friendly as no paper is required for the participants and all scoring information is done automatically for the hunt organizer who is provided with a special lurker account.

How it works

Gather your team mates as you embark on a journey through your neighbourhood discovering hidden treasures normally overlooked. Each clue requires teams to find a piece of information at a specific location. Once teams find this location they must do two things. First they must take a group photo (creativity is often rewarded!) and second they must submit the correct answer to the clue. Doing so will unlock the team's next clue. Once all clues have been unlocked each team is presented with a final puzzle to solve. All teams travel a unique path through the hunt which allows a large number of people to compete in the same hunt.

Scoring

Scoring for a mobile treasure hunt is done automatically using the point system described below:

  • Each time a team submits the correct answer to a clue they earn 100 points.
  • Each time a team asks for a clue hint they lose 50 points!
  • Each time a team submits an incorrect answer to a clue they lose 10 points!
  • If a team chooses to skip a clue, no points are awarded and the next clue is unlocked. Any points already lost for hints or incorrect answers remain.

The winner of the treasure hunt is the team that has the most number of points after completing the hunt. If any teams have the same number of points then the team that finishes the hunt first is declared the winner!

Lurking

Big brother is always watching! The lurker account allows the hunt organizer to 'watch' teams as they progress through the treasure hunt. Teams scores are displayed in real time. Thanks to the lurker account the hunt organizer can join the fun while their job is made easy!

Group Size

The maximum number of team User IDs that can be purchased for a pre-built mobile hunt is 12. The ideal team size is from 4 to 6 people. Because each team travels a different path through the treasure hunt large groups of people can participate in the same hunt without any issues. If more than 12 team User IDs are required then please contact customercare (at) leisurerules.ca

Requirements

An obvious requirement for the mobile treasure hunt is that at least one member of each team has a web-enabled mobile phone. More than one web-enabled mobile phone can be used to access the same team userid so multiple web-enabled mobile phones per team are allowed. Data usage for a mobile treasure hunt is very low at under 400kb. Many times data usage is closer to 200kb depending on the specific hunt and an individual team's interaction with the Leisure Rules website.
